Johnson's Island POW Record
This is a record of Richard's Imprisonment at Johnson's Island from the Friends and Descendants of Johnson's Island Civil War Prison
Richard was captured at Fort Donelson and details his life and times in this prison which was made to hold all of the officers of the Confederacy. I believe this was a serious tactical mistake of the North, because they were able to learn from each other, not only military tactics but learn about how to fight the enemy. It was a war college and a prison at the same time.
Richard was released and sent to Vicksburg on September 1, 1862 for exchange, where the soldiers were exchanged for Northern POW's held by the South.
